The 2021 Free From Skincare Awards

SUSINUM Luxuriant Hair Oil wins

Silver in the Hair Category

The Free From Skincare Awards were launched in 2012 to encourage and reward
manufacturers of skincare products that are ‘free from’ some of the allergens, ingredients,
additives and artificial fragrances which consumers with skin sensitivities, health concerns,
as well as ethical, personal and environmental values, would like to or need to avoid.

“Smells absolutely divine — really exotic and captivating. The oil itself is very light,
almost water light — I liked this as other hair oils I have used have been slightly
heavier (and weighed my hair down) — this was perfect. Immediately smoothed out
the fizz in my hair, and added shine — I was impressed as it did not leave my hair
looking oily, nor did it weigh my hair down … hair softer and silkier. Performed well
each time I used it. My opinion did not change unless you count falling in love with it
even more over the coming weeks. Hair felt smoother and less frizzy … delivered on its
promises of being nourishing, lightweight and non-greasy, adding shine, styling ease,
and fragrance. Such a great product.”

“…I was not prepared for the texture of the product, I had anticipated an oily, heavy, tacky
oil, but was pleasantly surprised to find it was a light texture… used it the first time on dry
hair and only on the ends after I’d blow dried my hair. It seemed to coat my hair nicely without
it being heavy.

I have been using it every time I’ve washed my hair, about twice a week. I have tried using it
in different ways, when my hair is dry, on wet hair, and midweek. I feel that my hair has
become softer and more manageable. My hair seems to have stayed cleaner for longer.
My hair is shiny, looks great after a blow dry now, my hair isn’t weighed down and smells
lovely. The condition of my hair has improved, it looks healthier too – really happy with the
affect.

Promises to: – ‘restore and revitalise the appearance of dry, weakened and damaged hair’ – I
totally agree it did this to my hair – ‘offers quick absorption and quick drying without oily
residue. Leaves hair feeling clean’ – I was so surprised at how quickly the serum absorbed into
my hair and didn’t leave it sticky.

Promises: -‘hair feels incredibly soft and silky with added glossy shine’ – my hair has never felt
so soft and had a shine.

Promises: – ‘helps smooth the appearance of split ends, and helps reduce frizz. Assists with
combing stubborn tangles’ – the ends of my hair looked more tamed.

Promises: – ‘subtle fragrance’ – there was just a hint of a fragrance, nothing too overpowering.
I cannot see how there could be any improvement… I was / am so lucky to have been sent
this item to try, it was as if you knew my hair needed extra loving care. I have used many hair
serums, some off the shelf in dept stores/chemists, others from hairdressers who have
recommended them. Nothing has given my hair the feel and softness I am experiencing now.
I was sceptical, another hair serum but straight away I could feel the texture was different
and did not have the artificial feel of the others I have used. The fragrance was light enough
to be evocative but not overpowering, it smelt rich – if you know what I mean. My hair hasn’t
looked better, and we’ve been in lock down for months !! love it.”

“My initial thoughts were what a lovely box with a detailed, pretty botanical illustration with
Egyptian references. The description and benefits stated on the outside of the box made me
eager to try it. It said it was a lightweight oil and I hoped that that was the case. Also, no
silicone in the ingredients list. The listed benefits match my major hair concerns, so I am
hopeful for a good result on my hair.

The hair oil is extremely light and runny, it is more like a hair water. It has an opulent, sensual
scent that lasts a long time. A test droplet on the back of my hand instantly absorbs and
moisturises my skin to a smooth finish with a beautiful lingering aroma.

The first time I used this I thought it was quite good but now I’ve used it a few times I am far
more impressed with it. I have long waist length, highlighted hair, and I think the first time I
used it I didn’t use enough drops (4 drops). I’ve increased it now to 6-8 and it is great now.
It’s the lightest hair oil I’ve ever used. In fact it’s more like water than an ordinary oil. I have
used it on wet and air dried hair so far and it has produced a nice finish to my wavy and frizzy
locks. It spreads very easily through the hair and produces a good sheen and absorbs quickly.
It fits easily into my routine whether I air dry, or blow dry. The oil produces a good finish.
There was nothing I disliked about the product

After a couple of weeks’ use, I am liking this hair oil more and more, especially its lightness
and how soft and shiny it makes my hair feel. It really is a lovely, light texture that seems to
penetrate the hair rather than coating it. It worked really well whilst blow-drying my hair to
produce a smooth, pliable and glossy finish. I also applied it to dry hair after blow drying on
any areas that looked particularly dry, again this worked really well and didn’t make my hair
greasy or heavy. It does not seem to be affecting my hair colour either and my highlights still
seem bright.

My hair is long (longer than usual since Covid) coloured, fine, frizzy, wavy, dry and a bit
damaged from straightening if I’m honest. After a month of using this hair oil and no other
kind of treatments after shampooing and conditioning my hair, I can definitely see a change
in my hair condition, softness and shine. My hair does not seem as brittle and there is less
breakage. I love the fact I can use this between shampoos on dry hair and I don’t have to
worry that my hair will turn into a flat lifeless mess. I’m guessing this is due to the absence of
silicone build up that happens with other oils. I also used it to spot apply on particularly dry
areas. It probably doesn’t stop frizz as much as silicone products, but I always feel that silicone
is more of a sticking plaster and not a true treatment like this kind of oil? Also it works equally
as well whether I leave my hair naturally wavy or blow dry it straight. I am going to continue
using this on my hair as I think it can still improve my hair further and needs longer than 4
weeks to fully reveal what it can do. It has a lovely distinctive smell and is so easy to use.

I feel the oil has delivered on its promised benefits. My hair feels nourished, stronger and
shinier; the oil is lightweight and non-greasy and makes styling easy and it is topped off with
a charming scent. I think it has made a difference to the condition of my hair in the 4 weeks
of testing and I can see this continuing with further use. Website Promises and Benefits:
NOURISHING -Enriched with nourishing oils, extracts and anti-oxidants to help restore and
revitalise the appearance of dry, weakened and damaged hair. LIGHTWEIGHT & NON-GREASY
– Beautifully lightweight in texture, this non-greasy, dry oil formula offers quick absorption
and quick drying without oily residue. Leaves hair feeling clean. SHINE – Hair feels incredibly
soft and silky with added glossy shine. STYLING EASE – Helps smooth the appearance of split
ends, and helps reduce frizz. Assists with combing stubborn tangles. FRAGRANT – Exquisitely
blended to create a subtle fragrance, reminiscent of the ancient scent, with a timeless appeal.
There is nothing I would change or improve about the product.”

“Whenever I see ‘hair oil’ I worry slightly that a product is going to be too greasy and make
me need to wash my hair more, so I opened this one up with some trepidation. But opening
up the product, I like the packaging -smart glass bottle with pipette. Clear instructions to only
use a couple of drops in palms of hands to mid lengths and ends which I did. Was somewhat
reassured that mid to end lengths might mean I wouldn’t end up with greasy hair.

This product is an oil, the pipette meant it was very easy to get the right amount out. Rubbed
in the palms, this nicely can be applied through wet or dry hair. The fragrance of this product
was subtle and lovely. It smells to me ‘like a spa’ very lightly floral smell which was soothing
and aromatic. I found it quite calming using it each day and the smell did not overly linger and
mix with other fragrance I used. A lovely treat in the morning routine – is the sort of smell you
might expect of an oil during a professional massage. Lovely packaging with lots of
information on it – particularly the outer packaging.

I really loved this product. My aversion of hair oil quickly faded when I used this product for
the first time. It is easy to apply to wet or dry hair. When used on wet hair which I then blow
dried, it really smoothed the hair and reduced fizziness in a way I have found other products
don’t. It performed well and was very easy to use as part of my morning routine…

I loved this product! Not only did it leave hair good when dried, it stayed in place well. Not
only that but the next day my hair was far more styled after a night in bed than it would be
usually – so really sustained taming of my mane with this product. As the weeks went on, I
just fell in love with this product even more…the product promised nourishment, lightness,
shine and styling ease on the packaging which felt like quite a promise- but for me this really
did perform in all these areas. It feels as if I have got the style I want with my hair (and far less
frizz), but that I am also using a product which is helping my hair. I feel this product lives up
to its claims – and it’s not often you can say that about a product!

I love this product…if a product can make me love the way my hair looks when it is in dire
need of a cut and a colour – it should really be applauded…”

“I was very excited to try this product – I’d seen the list of ingredients on the Free From
Skincare Awards Instagram post and it sounded very exotic. I really liked the packaging, the
image of the blue lotus lily on it suggested both the Egyptian origins of the product but also
suggested calm and pampering. There was lots of information on the packaging, presented in
a very clear way (including information about the product; its background; how to use;
ingredients; eco credentials, and benefits of the product). It all made me look forward to using
the product, and the anticipated results.

Smells absolutely divine – really exotic and captivating. The oil itself is very light, almost water
light – I liked this as other hair oils I have used have been slightly heavier (and weighed my
hair down) – this was perfect.

Immediately smoothed out the fizz in my hair, and added shine – I was impressed as it did not
leave my hair looking oily, as other hair oils have done, nor did it weigh my hair down. It left
my hair feeling softer and silkier. And the scent was simply gorgeous, I could not stop smelling
my hands after applying it.

Performed well each time I used it. My opinion did not change unless you count falling in love
with it even more over the coming weeks.

My hair felt smoother and less frizzy over the month-long testing period, but the effect was
most noticeable immediately after application. I am looking forward to continuing to use it
after a long overdue post-lockdown haircut, as I couldn’t properly assess its use on dry ends,
as mine were over-dry/beyond repair due to not having been cut in six months. But the effect
on the rest of my hair led me to believe that once cut, this product will keep my ends healthy
and in good condition. I’ve been braiding my hair (due to lack of lockdown haircuts) and found
that rubbing a few drops on my fingers before plaiting really helped keep the braids smooth
and assisted with the styling/braiding process.

The product delivered on its promises of being nourishing, lightweight and non greasy, adding
shine, styling ease, and fragrance. The background to the formulation of this product is pretty
impressive, and reading such lines as the below conjure up all sorts of exotic promises for the
performance of the product: “SUSINUM was exalted as a perfumed-oil of the highest
excellence, exclusively made for the elite and royal upper classes of Egyptian Society. Exuding
an aura of rarity and exclusiveness, SUSINUM was worn for its heavenly and euphoric aroma,
ceremoniously used to anoint hair and body as a rich symbol of eternal beauty and feminine
sensuality. Royal, Opulent and Seductive, SUSINUM was exotic, and its scent was majestic; a
triumph amongst all fragranced-oils of ancient Egypt. It is said that Cleopatra VII drenched the
purple sails of her royal barge in fragrant SUSINUM, as she set sail to seduce Mark Anthony.”
The scent and performance lives up to the images conjured by this, making one feel very
special when using it (though a modern-day Mark Anthony has yet to make an appearance. I
live in hope).

I wouldn’t change anything about this product – and thank Rámon Taitz, Founder of HÆR, for
all the research gone into making such a great product.

I really liked all the information and images on the website, showing how much research has
gone into the formulation of Susinum Luxuriant Hair Oil, combining ancient wisdom and plant
knowledge with modern scientific methods. Great eco credentials and ethos.”
